Who we are

SERN is a bilateral network of municipalities from Italy and Sweden established in 2005. It is the main network in Europe fostering relations in a multilevel perspective between Northern and Southern Europe. SERN is open to civil society and to the private actors, one of its objective is to foster active participation of citizens in the process of European integration.

The secretariat of SERN supports the members in the development of projects along 6 driving themes which constitute the framework of reference for the members, one of them is environment and environmental policies in general.

Given the attention paid by its members to the theme of environmental policies, in 2013 SERN became a "Support Organization" of the covenant of mayors with the role of fostering activities and communication among the signatories. At the moment there are 13 municipalities members of SERN which have signed the Covenant, 8 from Italy and 5 from Sweden.
